Saints’ softball was successful in a slugfest, while Melcher-Dallas’ baseball team couldn’t find their offense on Wednesday night. The Saints’ girls got out to an early 5 – 0 lead, but fell behind by the fifth 8 – 5 to Centerville. Down to their last three outs, Melcher-Dallas scored five runs in the top of the seventh and held on to win 10 – 8. Lexi Crozier had a rough night and still got the win on the mound, but had her share of good at-bats at the plate, going 2-for-3 and driving in three runs. Anastasia Dennison was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s, and M’Kay Knutson had a seventh inning double that scored two to help charge the comeback for the Saints. The same could not be said, unfortunately, for the Saints’ baseball team, as they fell to Van Meter 12 – 1. Coach Jon Suntken tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that the game was not as bad as the score showed, as the Bulldogs hit a pair of three-run homers that would have been routine fly balls at home. The Melcher-Dallas softball team improves to 4 – 4 while baseball drops to 0 – 3. Both squads will host Mormon-Trail for a game later tonight.
