Baseballs and softballs were flying all over their respective diamonds in Thornburg last night as Twin Cedars paid the school a visit. The Sabers’ softball team lost 8 – 5. Coach Zack Dunkin’s squad picked up ten hits, with two each coming from Brittney Roby, Bailey Stone, Alee Hugen and Shelby Hall. Stone also had two RBI’s in the contest. On the mound, Brittney Roby started, and Mackenzie Sedlock came in later in the game in relief, but the Sabers’ defense faltered, committing four errors which led to four unearned runs. The Twin Cedars’ boys bounced back after dropping their first contest of the year, beating Mormon-Trail 13 – 2. The fourth-ranked Sabers again had offensive production up-and-down their line-up. Top performers include Corey Harrell going 2-for-5 with an RBI, Otis Roby was 1-for-3 with an RBI and touched the plate four times, and Brent Parker went 2-for-3, smacked a home run and drove in two. The Sabers’ baseball team is now 11 – 1 on the season, and both teams will host Seymour to wrap the week up tonight.
