Be Sun Safe During the Summer/RAGBRAI

The Iowa Department of Public Health reminds RAGBRAI participants and volunteers along the route to protect themselves from the sun and heat. In addition to staying hydrated, participants and volunteers should always remember to use sunscreen. Exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun is the greatest risk factor for melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. The CDC recommends use of SPF 15 or higher, application at least 20 minutes before sun exposure, re-application every two hours, and remember to apply to ears, scalp, lips, neck, tops of feet, and backs of hands.
