The First United Methodist Church in Knoxville is helping several families in the area get their kids ready for school this year. They’re holding their annual back-to-school event Wednesday evening at the high school commons. 150 children in grades K-8 that receive free or reduced lunches will be receiving free backpacks thanks to the Salvation Army.

School supplies will be distributed, and free shoes will be handed out by Soles for Souls. They will also offer free immunizations for those who qualify, as well as a counseling service and information about Hawk-I Insurance. The event takes place from 4-to-8 pm Wednesday.
