Pella has spent months preparing for RAGBRAI to visit, and the day is finally here. The majority of riders are expected to enter town early this morning, but Jill VandeVoort from the Pella Convention and Visitors Bureau, says many cyclist have booked hotel rooms locally, for both last night and tonight. Vendors will fill the square selling food, gear, and dutch themed souvenirs, while tours, games, and a zip line provide entertainment. Pella is a scheduled meet up town, meaning an extra 1,500 buses are expected in the area. KNIA/KRLS’ Big Red Radio will be downtown playing music, and making announcements.
Parking spaces will be blocked off on the north side of the 700 block of Franklin, along with six spaces on the west side of the 800 block of Main. Closures will also include the 800 blocks of Broadway and Main Streets, parking spaces on the east and west sides of the 700 block of Broadway, and parking spaces on the east side of the 700 block of Main Street, Franklin Street from Broadway to East 2nd, and the 700 blocks of Broadway, Main, Liberty, Union, Independence, Peace and University streets.
