Otis Roby threw a masterpiece and even contributed in a big way at the plate, and Twin Cedars beat Pleasantville, 5 – 0 on Saturday night in the Class 1A District 10 baseball finals. All five of the Sabers’ runs came with two outs, and it all started in the first inning. Pleasantville’s Josh Luna got two outs with just five pitches in the top half, but then consecutive singles by Hunter Embray, Corey Harrell, Brent Parker and Drew Carlson gave the Sabers a 2 – 0 lead. Carlson added a two-out RBI in the third. Roby helped his own cause later on in the sixth, picking up the only extra-base hit of the contest, a two-run double to center to cement a 5 – 0 lead. The Sabers’ hurler also allowed just five hits and pitched out of two jams when the Trojans threatened to get back into the game. At one point, he retired 12 straight batters and he ended the night with 11 strikeouts. Pleasantville finishes their season with a record of 24 – 12, Twin Cedars improves to 34 – 2, and the Sabers will move on to play North Mahaska this Tuesday in the substate finals. Because Albia won in their playoff game on Saturday, the game will take place at Pella Christian at 7:00 p.m. You can hear the call live on AM 1320 KNIA and on KNIAKRLS.com.
