As August approaches, the temperatures are expected to be hot as usual throughout Iowa. This can leave the elderly, young children, and pets vulnerable to the heat. Lt. Haase of the Pella Police Department, suggests checking on your elderly family and neighbors regularly, especially if they do not have a cooling system in their home. He also reminds citizens that temperatures inside a vehicle are substantially hotter than outside, and can be life threatening in a short amount of time to anyone left inside, including pets. If you do not have a way to keep cool in your home, Lt. Haase suggests a trip to the Public Library or a local church as an option to beat the heat.
