World famous opera singer Simon Estes is among the acts performing at Knoxville’s new auditorium this year. Estes, a Centerville native, will be performing in concert on Sunday, December 1st. That announcement was made last week by Knoxville Schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack. Knoxville Middle School Music teacher Megan Phillips is also from Centerville. She approached Estes earlier this year about coming to Knoxville for the concert. Dr. Flack says Estes will speak to high school students on Monday, December 2nd, about his life and experiences. Details on the concert and tickets will be released later.
In addition to Estes, other performance dates were announced. The Performing Arts Center Open House takes place at 2pm on Sunday, September 8th. The public will be invited to tour the auditorium and take in short performances from the high school chorus and band.
On Sunday, September 29th, Doreen’s Jazz New Orleans will be in concert at the Knoxville Performing Arts Center as part of their Midwest tour. They’ll also provide a workshop for band students that Monday. More information regarding that concert will be released in the future as well.
