Week two of the Pella Police Departments four week traffic safety initiative is complete, and Lt. Paul Haase says that once again, it’s been another successful seven days. During the month long program, the department is focused on seat belt, speed, OWI, “K” turn, and pedestrian violations. The focus of week two was speed, and the department reports that they had 70 total traffic contacts, including 24 written warnings, and 24 citations. This week, the emphasis will be on Pedestrian and “K” turn violations before the final week focuses on seat belt enforcement once again. The initiative is phase one of a proactive approach to optimize public safety and promote positive driving behaviors.
