Two inductees to the 2013 Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Softball Hall of Fame each have a local connection. Libby Hysell had a 71 – 16 record on the mound for Central, with a career ERA of a stellar 0.69, 33 shutouts and 582 strikeouts. Emily Grimes from Pella Christian High is the other local inductee, as she went 112 – 15 in her high school career with two state tournament appearances. She was selected as the Class 1A Player of the Year as a senior back in 1990. Grimes also was an all-American pitcher for Central; she went 64 – 14 on her way to helping the Dutch win national championships in 1991 and 1994. The induction ceremony will take place at the girls’ state softball tournament in Fort Dodge next Friday, June 26 before the start of the Class 2A championship game.
