In a game that saw five home runs, four of them for Pella Christian, the Eagles were defeated by North Mahaska last night, 12 – 8, in the first round of the Class 2A regional softball tournament. Errors were what cost the Eagles, unofficially tallying seven of them throughout the contest, and three of them came in a six-run second inning for the Warhawks. Lydia Bandstra’s first two at-bats were round-trippers, Brooke Mitrisin had a solo shot in the third, and senior Jaynee VandeWeerdhof, in her final plate appearance as an Eagle, hit a two-run jack out to left. Coach Nate Van Wyk said that in the end, his team just gave the Warhawks too many opportunities. Pella Christian finishes the year with a record of 13 – 18 – 1 and they lose three seniors to graduation.
