After dropping the first game of the doubleheader to Newton 3 – 0 on Wednesday, the Pella High baseball team rode the strong pitching of Tanner Wood to a 3 – 0 win in the nightcap to salvage a split on the evening. Wood had a complete game shutout, allowing three hits, walking just one, and striking out seven. The Pella High hurler also was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI to help his cause out. Ryan Shull and Jacob Gleason each tripled and scored to highlight the night at the plate for Pella. Coach Jesse Jablonski said Wood’s performance made it easy on everyone, including the coach himself. Pella’s split moves their record to 12 – 16 on the season overall and they are now 8 – 9 in the conference. The Little Dutch are off until Monday when they play their final conference game at Oskaloosa.
