Heat Wave is Here

File [1]

A late summer heat wave is upon us. Highs are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 90s throughout the week. Judi Van Hulzen, with Marion County Public Health, says that dehydration can be a major factor in this weather. If you’re out doing work or playing in the sun, Van Hulzen says to be sure to take breaks and get in the shade. She suggests that you either drink water or something with electrolytes like Gatorade or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. She says leg cramps and confusion are signs of dehydration. If any of those symptoms don’t improve after you get into the shade, she says it’s time to go to the doctor to prevent heat stroke. The Knoxville School District has announced they’ll be letting out 90 minutes early Monday-Wednesday because of the heat.

The Melcher-Dallas Community Center is open today until 8pm for people who need a cooling center. You must call ahead to get in. The number is 641-218-9528.
