In late June, the Pella High softball team had a tournament they play annually up in Ames. They split their two games with Perry and West Delaware, and had to face both Ankeny and Ames the next day. Coach Krista DeMeulenaere saw that they had a tough conference schedule looming on the other side of the weekend, so she decided to let everyone play in their game against the Hawkettes. Though they did get beat 14 – 0, DeMeulenaere says that after the game, her girls were happy that Ankeny played hard until the final out and never let up, because if they get beat, they want to get beat, and don’t want to have anything handed to them. The Lady Dutch head coach added that she believes that represents best of what’s to come from her team over the next several seasons.
