Marion County Conservation Board officials report that vandalism has ended a phase of their project at Marion County Park Lake earlier than expected. Vandals apparently damaged nets at the lake over the weekend. Conservation Office Director Steve Edwards says the nets were in place to move game fish out of the lake and to the Wilcox ponds before they drained the lake this week. They were left out over the weekend in hopes of gathering several fish; however, one was cut. Edwards says the nets were being borrowed from the DNR, so they pulled them in order to prevent further damage. The lake is being drained to address siltation issues. The lake currently has about 15 feet of silt; the silt will be dredged during drainage and a sill pond constructed in order to complete a healthier ecosystem.
