Crypto Cases Infest Marion County

The gastrointestinal illness cryptosporidiosis has found its way into Marion County. Judi Van Hulzen, at Marion County Public Health, says that they have had eleven cases of crypto this year, including nine since June 1st. It’s spread by putting something in the mouth that has been contaminated with the stool of infected person, including swallowing contaminated food or water. Van Hulzen notes that most cases of crypto stem from swimming in contaminated bodies of water. She says symptoms of the parasite include watery diarrhea, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and low-grade fever. Dehydration is the biggest danger, and those who have persistent signs and symptoms need to see a physician.
