It’s National Farm Safety and Health Week, and area farmers just might be a little safer now. The Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department and the Milo Fire Department now have the training and equipment they need to extract farmers who become entrapped in grain bins. The equipment was donated by Farm Credit Services, and training was provided this week by Outstate Data, the company that manufactures the rescue tubes and slide hammers needed. Fire Chief Kenny Thompson says that he hopes they never have to use the equipment, but that they are prepared should the situation arrive. Craig Berg, with Outstate Data, stresses that farmers need to take safety precautions when working in grain bins.
