One discovery the Knoxville Football Squad made this offseason and in Friday night’s season opener was freshman wide receiver Trent Davis. It is rare for a freshman to play varsity football…however with the lack of depth for the Panthers…the coaching staff made the decision to play a ninth grader on Friday nights. Davis caught three balls for 53 yards and a couple of key third down conversions late in the Panthers’ 21/13 loss to P-C-M on Friday. Coach Troy Rider says it is a big risk play someone that young…but he tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that they will give Davis opportunities to make plays without risking his health like sending him over the middle unless the pass is deep and there is one-on-one coverage. Knoxville journeys north on Highway 14 to Newton this Friday for its second non-district contest.
