Darrell Lanigan led 68 of the 100 laps and had to survive two red flag periods in the final six laps and a last ditch effort by Josh Richards to record his first win in the Tenth Annual Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night. Lanigan grabbed the lead on lap 20 and looked as if he would run away and hide. However, Richards, who won the first two nights of racing kept Lanigan in the vicinity until he seemed to slow in the later stages. Richards passed him going into turn three and he began to pull away until a red flag came out on lap 94. Lanigan made the winning pass on lap 95, after a botched restart brought out another red flag, and held on for a victory margin of .326. After the race Lanigan says his tires got a little warm and he just needed to cool off to get his second wind. Tim McCreadie, Steve Francis, and Billy Moyer completed the top five.
