This month is Library Card Sign-Up month. Knoxville Library Director Roslin Thompson says that the library provides students and adults with all sorts of resources. She explains students can turn to the library not just for books, but for encyclopedias, dictionaries, and online reference databases for research. She adds that reading engages students and helps promote success in school. She adds story time begins Tuesday for preschool kids and will be offered every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30 during the school year.
Pella Library Director Wendy Street says a library card is the smartest card you can have. Street says that more and more research is showing that pre literacy skills, or having children understand that words on a page translate into an actual story before they go to school, is extremely important. Street adds that storytimes, and other activities at the library are intended to create a love for reading, but reading to your children at home can make that interest stronger.
