Knoxville School Board candidate Michael Moats is familiar with the Knoxville School District. Moats spent about two decades as a science teacher, at-risk coordinator, and energy manager in the District. He also coached several sports; most notably boys’ cross country. Moats says the district faces several challenges, including declining enrollment and several faculty members that soon become eligible for retirement. He says there are opportunities, however, to make the district more appealing for new families. He adds the new auditorium is a great feature, and the current board is full of knowledgeable people.
