New security systems were installed at all Knoxville school buildings this summer. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack tells KNIA/KRLS News that they’ll begin implementing the system after ID cards are completed for the staff. He explains that those cards will be coded to give staff appropriate access.

The doors will be unlocked before and after school to allow students to easily flow during those busy times. Otherwise, once the system is implemented, those doors will be locked during the school day. Dr. Flack says that visitors will be required to be buzzed in by school secretaries, who will be able to monitor those outside on camera. He adds that many schools across the state are taking similar steps in order to increase the safety of students.
