Pella Christian led 13-0 heading into the fourth quarter, but Ogden scored twice in the final nine minutes, including the game winner with just 26 seconds remaining, to steal a 14-13 win from the Eagles last night. After a slow start by both teams, Mason Howerzyl scored on a 13 yard run late in the second quarter, but the P.A.T. was no good. The Eagle defense then slammed the door with an impressive goal line stand with no time on the clock to hold a 6-0 halftime lead. Howerzyl added another score midway through the third quarter and all the momentum was with the Eagles. But everything changed in the fourth quarter when Ogden intercepted a pass on fourth down returning it to the Eagles 30 yard line setting up their first score a few plays later. Late in the game the Eagles defense once again was mounting a goal line stand trying to secure the win, but with :26 remaining on 4th down, Ogden found the end zone from six yards out and kicked the P.A.T. for the win. Eagles’ assistant coach, Darryl DeRuiter said that this was a tough loss to swallow. For the third consecutive week, Howerzyl was unstoppable with 153 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries but the Eagles fell to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in Class 1A District 7. The Eagles will try to recover when they travel to top 10 rated Van Meter Friday night.
