Pella Christian’s volleyball team suffered a tough defeat at the hands of Grinnell last night. The Eagles lost in five sets to the Tigers; dropping game one 23 – 25, winning the next two 25 – 16 and 25 – 19, before falling 16 – 25 and 6 – 25 to lose the match. Eagles’ coach Cindy Nikkel tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that the Tigers kept digging and were very scrappy throughout the match while her girls were coming up flat. Alyssa Starkey had 31 digs, and Becca Gritters had 18 kills to highlight the night for the Eagles. Pella Christian ends their conference schedule with a 3 – 4 record and are 14 – 14 overall. The Eagles have one final tune-up to prepare them for their round one Class 2A regional tournament match against Cardinal of Eldon, and that’s the Knoxville tournament tomorrow morning.
