A little less sharp than they have been, Coach Catie Brand admitted, but Pella High still came away with a winning record on the volleyball courts in their home tournament on Saturday. Pella and Knoxville squared off in the first match and went to three sets, but it was the Lady Dutch who ended up on top, 19 – 21, 21 – 12 and 15 – 6. They also beat North Mahaska and PCM in consecutive sets. Their losses came to Greene County and Mediapolis, though they played each school very tight; their loss to Greene County ended 19 – 21 and 20 – 22, while the loss to Mediapolis was 17 – 21 and 16 – 21. Meanwhile, it was a frustrating day for PCM, losing to all five of the other schools in attendance. The Lady Dutch are now 19 – 14 on the season and they are at home against Norwalk on Tuesday for a conference match, where a win would at least guarantee them a share of the Little Hawkeye Conference title. PCM falls to 3 – 19 and they will play Colfax-Mingo on Tuesday.
