Pella came away with a clean sweep in Grinnell on Monday, winning the Little Hawkeye Conference championship on the boys’ and girls’ sides. Kelcey Blommers was the fastest overall on the girls’ side, leading the Lady Dutch with her time of 14:47. Tess Roorda was a very, very close third place at 14:49; finishing in third by tenths of a second behind Newton’s Grace Coen. The Lady Dutch’s team score was 35, beating second place Oskaloosa by 24. Knoxville as a team was seventh. Courtney Hughs was 19th overall to lead the Panthers at a time of 16:51. Pella Christian’s Marina Shannon led her team with a time of 18:45 and good for 41st overall. The Eagles on the girls’ side were eighth overall as a team. For the boys, the Little Dutch’s seven varsity runners finished anywhere from third to 17th, coming away with 32 points, a resounding 30 points better than second place Grinnell. Ben Warner was fastest at 16:43 and third place, Jordan Pingel came in at 16:49 and fourth place. The Panther boys were sixth; Jordan Angove’s 17:40 time was good for 15th overall and Brad Shearer was 19th at 17:52. Pella Christian did not have enough to register a team score, but their fastest runner was Jacob Lensing, who was 20th overall at 17:57. The Eagles will race in Chariton this Thursday, while Pella is off until the State Qualifying Meet next Thursday on October 24.
