It was the Noah Clayberg show as #2 ranked Pella defeated Fairfield 56-14 to advance to the second round of the Class 3A Playoffs Wednesday night. Clayberg rushed for 210 yards and five touchdowns, as well as a 42-yard punt return and passed for another touchdown. Pella jumped to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and it appeared they’d roll to victory, however Fairfield made it interesting pulling within 21-14 on an 80 yard kickoff return and a 95 yard drive in the second quarter. Shortly after that Clayberg hit Nathan Henry on a short screen pass which Henry turned into a 57 yard touchdown and Coach Jay Mckinstrey said that was the game changing play. That was the start of 35 unanswered Pella points as they cruised to the win. Pella used another bruising attack with 329 rushing yards and outgained the Trojans 427-210 for the game. Pella improves to 10-0 on the season and will host Williamsburg, who came from behind to beat Norwalk, in the second round of the playoffs Monday night.
