The one-two teams in the Little Hawkeye Conference face-off on the volleyball courts tonight with a conference title on the line. Pella is undefeated in league play at 6 – 0 while Newton is 5 – 1, with their only loss coming to Dallas Center-Grimes. Both squads faced each other in the Cardinals’ home tournament earlier this month, with the Lady Dutch coming away with a two sets-to-one victory. Pella Coach Catie Brand says that there has been build-up to this confrontation since last year. The “history” from last season that Brand referred to is from the regional tournament in 2012. Pella was defeated twice during the regular season last year, but won in four sets over the Cardinals in the first round of the Class 4A regionals. Tonight’s festivities start with the ninth grade and JV matches at 5:30 p.m. with varsity playing at around 7:15.
