Over 1,200 school and AEA board members and administrators from across the state are gathering today and tomorrow for the 68th Annual Convention of the Iowa Association of School Boards at the Iowa Events Center. This year’s schedule includes programs of interest to districts of all sizes, as well as nationally-renowned keynote speakers Yong Zhao, Kevin Honeycutt and Scott McLeod. Pella Superintendent Greg Ebeling says that he feels that the conference is a great event for the board to attend, especially Michelle Van Maanen, who is the lone new member to the Pella board.
Leslie Miller, Knoxville School Board President, tells KNIA KRLS News that the School Board Convention as well. Board members will vote on this year’s legislative priorities for the upcoming session, attend three levels of in-depth finance training sessions and take part in networking discussions on a variety of topics including operational sharing, building a strong board/superintendent team, alumni fundraising, response to intervention, the role of the board president, among other topics.
