The Central women’s basketball team kept control for most of the game, while the men lost control towards the end of theirs in Tuesday night’s college action. The women prevailed 64 – 50 over Nebraska Wesleyan, though the final score was a lot closer than what the game actually was. The Dutch stormed out to a 39 – 20 halftime lead, thanks to 4-for-4 shooting from three-point range by Courtney Kelderman, who finished with a game high 17 points. Central shot 41% from the field for the game and 83% at the free throw line. The win moves the Dutch to 4 – 0 on the year, and matches their longest winning streak in the past seven seasons. Coach Chelsea Peterson says her athletes’ dedication to getting better each day in practice has propelled them to this fast start. Central’s men had a ten point lead at one point in the first half of their game with Cornell, but hot shooting from the Rams’ Reggie Greenwood in the second half propelled them to a 78 – 68 victory. Greenwood was held to five points in the first 20 minutes, but came on strong in the final frame, shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line to finish with a game-high 19 points. Turnovers plagued the Dutch all game; they had 21 for the game, which matched their season total coming into last night’s contest. The men are now 2 – 1 on the year and will head to Sioux Center for back-to-back games starting on Friday against Northwestern, while the women will be at home this Saturday for a contest against Presentation, South Dakota.
