The Pella Christian girls’ basketball season tips off tomorrow night, and the players that have returned for this season have some big shoes to fill with the group of seniors that left the program last year. The Eagles have been to the state basketball tournament the last two years, and three of their last four. Lauren Jungling and Tessa Howerzyl are back, but gone are faces like Cori Uitermarkt, Madison Fopma, Paige Engbers and Jora Vander Hart. One Eagle that played a key role down the stretch was Hannah Beltman. She started in place of Jungling while she was battling an injury towards the end of the regular season. Beltman stepped up and was a huge contributor then, and Coach Kevin Van Maanen says he expects her to play an even bigger role for the team this year. The Eagles open up the season against Martensdale-St. Mary’s tomorrow night.
