Turnovers were again a problem for the Melcher-Dallas girls’ basketball team to open up their season, falling to Wayne 65 – 39 last night. Coach Jon Suntken tells KNIA/KRLS Sports her girls, despite the turnovers, still played pretty well and hung in with the Falcons, who returned a good majority of their team from a year ago. The score was 28 – 20 at intermission, but could have been a lot closer; the Saints missed 13 free throws in the first half. Sophomore Jessi Anderson led her team in scoring with 13 points, and nearly had a double-double as she was able to grab nine boards on top of that. Kaylee Houston scored 11 points and Maddie Roland had ten rebounds for the Saints, who begin 0 – 1 this year. Melcher-Dallas heads to Pleasantville for their next contest on Tuesday.
