The Knoxville Basketball Squads take a trip to Grinnell for the first road game of the season. It is also the Little Hawkeye Conference opener for both Panthers and Tigers. Fans likely have noticed watching college basketball this season, the new emphasis on fouls. That also includes high school where Knoxville Girls Coach Jim Utiermarkt tells KNIA/KRLS Sports teams are going to have to adjust how they play defense. Utiermarkt said in the days leading up in practice he has had the girls to wear towels around their necks to train them to keep their hands up when guarding. He says once you drop you hands down low the officials have been instructed to call a foul. Knoxville is 1-1 after falling to Albia on Tuesday. The boys open up conference play with the Tigers hoping to spring the upset. Coach Jeff Larson was pleased with the effort in the loss to Albia on Tuesday. He said the guys worked hard all game long and never gave up even when Albia went on a 14-0 run after Knoxville had grabbed the lead early in the second half. He adds Grinnell is one of the most talented team they will face all season, but the emphasis will always be to come out and win. You can hear the play-by-play on AM 1320 and 95-point-three KNIA and kniakrls.com starting at six.
