weather story dec 21 [1]

The National Weather Service Reports that a winter storm will affect our region this weekend. Snow will spread across the southeast half of Iowa beginning late this afternoon and through Sunday. Total snowfall accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are possible from south central into northeast Iowa, with 4 to 8 inches possible to the southeast of that zone. The snow may be preceded by freezing drizzle or light freezing rain and sleet across portions of south central and southeast Iowa this afternoon and evening. Northwest winds will increase by early Sunday morning resulting in blowing and drifting snow which will create hazardous travel conditions. Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are in effect for much of central and eastern Iowa. Cold, arctic air will follow the departing storm system beginning Sunday night. Dangerously cold wind chills will exist by early Monday morning especially across northern Iowa.

Tune to KNIA 1320AM 95.3FM and KRLS 92.1FM for the most current and accurate local weather information as well as reports from local officials as needed during the storm.
