They scored more than twice as many points as they did in their loss to Simpson on Wednesday, but the Central women’s basketball team fell just short to Buena Vista on Saturday, losing 83 – 79. The Dutch shot 40% from the field, but could not stop a very explosive offensive attack by the Beavers who were 50%. Four Central starters finished in double figures, led by Kenzie Vander Molen who stepped up and scored a game-high 24. The Dutch women drop to 9 – 8 overall and 1 – 5 in the league. Despite a 15 – 0 run by Buena Vista to begin the second half, Central’s men held on to win, 76 – 72. The Dutch went 12-of-21 from three-point range; they were 8-of-13 in the second half which allowed them to take the lead late after being down seven. Matt Greenfield could not be stopped and he scored a career-high 35. Central’s men are in second place in the Iowa Conference with a 4 – 2 mark and are 11 – 6 overall. The Dutch come home for their next two contests, starting this Wednesday against Coe.
