Central’s women’s basketball team got off on the right foot in Iowa Conference play last night with a come-from-behind victory over Luther, 76 – 75. The Dutch trailed 38 – 26 to the Norse at the half, and trailed by 14 with as little as 11 minutes left in the game. Down 75 – 73 with three seconds left, Courtney Kelderman hit a three to give Central the lead and the win. Kelderman finished with 15 points, and Kenzie Vander Molen dumped in a game-high 29 to lead the way for the Dutch. The men survived a last-second three by the Norse to win their league opener, 84 – 82. Central led by as much as seven points in the second half, but the two squads stayed within four points of one another for a majority of the final 20 minutes. Kevin Kaerwer led all scorers with 26 points and Matt Greenfield had 16 for the Dutch. Central’s women improve to 9 – 3, the men are 8 – 4, and they are both 1 – 0 to begin conference play, with a chance to go to 2 – 0 this Saturday against Dubuque.
