Good defense by Des Moines Christian helped them leave their home gym with a sweep of Pella Christian in Saturday basketball action. The girls lost 56 – 42; Coach Kevin Van Maanen tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that his girls just looked tired after playing a full 32 minutes against Grinnell the previous night. Tessa Howerzyl had 12 points for Pella Christian. The Eagles’ boys were down by three at half, but were again the victims of a big third quarter by their opponents and lost 63 – 43. Des Moines Christian outscored the Eagles 22 – 7 in that third frame which proved to be the back-breaker. Freshman Levi Jungling scored 16 points to lead all Pella Christian scorers, and Coltin Collins added nine. Pella Christian’s boys and girls drop to 6 – 8, and have plenty of time to prepare for their next game against Dallas Center-Grimes this Friday night.
