Both the Central men and women’s basketball teams in 2013-14 have been picked to finish last in the Iowa Conference this season. Honestly, it’s not much of a surprise; they each lost some key seniors off of last year’s team and brought a pair of youthful squads to the court this season. However, Dutch men’s coach, Craig Douma says his guys are using it as motivation to perhaps surprise some teams in league play. In addition, the men have played a tougher non-conference schedule this year as opposed to last year, and they don’t have a month long lay-over between the end of their non-conference schedule and the beginning of the league schedule like they did last season. Also, the Dutch women got off to their hottest start in program history. The women are 8 – 3 and the men are 7 – 4, and they each begin Iowa Conference play tomorrow at home against Luther.
