They may have matched their non-conference record from a year ago, but the Central men’s basketball team is a much improved team from 2012-13. Offensively, the Dutch are averaging close to 80 points per game thus far, which is a little under where they were through 11 games last season. The biggest improvement that has been noticeable to Coach Craig Douma, is that the Dutch are playing better defense, which he says will help them come the start of their Iowa Conference schedule. Both last year’s and this year’s teams gave up or have given up roughly 74 points per game, but the Dutch have played considerably tougher opponents this season, including visits to William Penn and Augustana. Central’s men are 7 – 4 and host Luther to tip-off conference play this Wednesday.
