The National Weather Service reports that a significant winter system will impact Iowa today. Very strong winds today with wind gusts to 65 mph possible this afternoon. Snow squalls are likely to develop this afternoon ahead of a strong arctic boundary that will arrive. Conditions will rapidly deteriorate under the snow squalls where a quick one to two inches of snow may occur along with significant blowing snow. Tonight, the arctic air spills south and combined with the wind will lead to wind chill values of 20 to 40 below zero. The cold weather will continue through Tuesday with some moderation arriving by Wednesday.
