Greg Heartsill, State Representative for Iowa House District 28 says the 2014 legislative session is going to go very quickly this year. The session is usually 110 days, but this year is just 100 days. He says infrastructure needs will be a big issue this year. He says nobody is arguing the need for infrastructure and bridges on secondary, county and farm-to-market roads, the fight is on how to fund it. There was a battle last year over raising the gas tax, and there has been a bill put forward this year to raise the gas tax over three years. He says he is on the other side of that issue, and would like to look at alternatives to raising the gas tax. Transparency in government is another issue he says will be big this year.
