Of four engineering firms that responded to the request for proposal, one was awarded the contract for Knoxville’s Red Rock Industrial Park and Rail Port feasibility study. City Manager Harold Stewart says the contract was awarded to an engineering firm called Olsson and Associates, with the lowest bid of just over $117,000; the next low bid was approximately $118,000. Olsson and Associates offered a proposed completion time frame of 9 months. Their bid was also the lowest; being three months sooner than the next closest bid.
The next step is for Stewart and his staff to negotiate a contract with Olsson and Associates, and bring that to the public and to the council for approval. Stewart says there will be several public hearings on this project as it proceeds.
