Jeff Mathias, District Conservationist with the NRCS office says the USDA has extended the deadline for new enrollments in the Conservation Stewardship Program for fiscal year 2014 to February 7. Producers interested in participating in the program can submit applications to the local Natural Resources Conservation Service office. CSP is offered through a continuous signup, but NRCS periodically makes funding selections. The program emphasizes conservation performance, where producers can earn higher payments for higher performance. Through the CSP, producers install conservation enhancements to make positive changes in soil health and erosion; water quality and quantity, as well as plant and animal resources and energy.
