In two close contests, Pella High swept Pella Christian on the basketball courts last night. The Lady Dutch won 54 – 49; the Eagles held the lead for the majority of the game and even had a slight advantage in the fourth quarter, until Jessica Holterhaus took the game in her hands and hit some big buckets down the stretch. Pella coach, Jerod Garland says that if Holterhaus can get on a roll, she is hard to stop. The junior finished the game with 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead Pella, and Lauren Jungling finished with 17 for the Eagles. Both boys’ squads lost double digit leads at some point during their game, but the Little Dutch used a 23 – 10 fourth quarter to win 70 – 53. It came down to the Eagles not making key buckets down the stretch and not being able to slow down Pella, says head coach, Larry Hessing. Isaac Naaktgeboren had a near double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds and Jordan Pingel threw in 14 of his own for Pella. Coltin Collins led the way for the Eagles with 19. Pella’s girls are now 5 – 4, the Eagles drop to 4 – 6; the Little Dutch are now 6 – 2 while the Eagles’ boys are 5 – 4. Each team is back in action this Friday night when Pella heads to Knoxville and Pella Christian stays at home to face Norwalk.
