During the Republican Caucus’ held Tuesday night in Pella and Knoxville, one candidate and four campaign representatives spoke to the crowd. The only on site candidate was Mark Lofgren, while spokesman for Governor Branstad, Sam Clovis, Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and Greg Heartsill also addressed the audience. Irene Blom with the Marion County Republican party tells KNIA/KRLS News that three planks for the party platform stood out. She said the first plank, continuing a Pro Life agenda, is a staple in the party. She added that stopping the Iowa legislature’s implementation of Common Core is also a plank that many are passionate about. Finally, the party supports the mandatory parental consent for minors receiving non-life threatening medical procedures.
