Pella Christian’s boys could not overcome a 30-point onslaught by Albia’s Matt Baker, and the Eagles fell 67 – 60 last night in the Class 2A district final. The Eagles got off to a hot start and built an eight point lead, before Matt Baker took matters into his own hands and helped his team take control and end the first half with a four point advantage. Pella Christian held the lead briefly in the third, but the Blue Demons closed the period strong, on a 6 – 0 run, and wouldn’t trail the rest of the way. Coach Larry Hessing says there were a lot of things his team did well, but in the end, there were a few things they didn’t do well enough. Josh Posthuma played his best game of the season and scored 14 points while grabbing 16 rebounds to lead all Eagles in those categories. Pella Christian loses four seniors with their loss, and finished the season 10 – 14 overall.
