The Central men’s basketball team took one more step towards the NCAA national tournament with a slim two-point win over Buena Vista last night, 86 – 84. The game started not-so-hot for the visiting Beavers, as they lost the league’s leading scorer in Cole Darrow to an injury about five minutes in and he would not return. Buena Vista was able to score without him, going 14-for-29 from beyond the arc for the game. Central trailed 2 – 0 early but would lead the rest of the way despite not being able to put the game away until the final seconds ticked off the clock. Four Dutch had double figures led by Matt Greenfield’s 28 and Nile Eckermann had 18. Coach Craig Douma says that even without Darrow in, the Beavers became almost harder to guard. Central moves on to play tomorrow night in the championship game against Luther, who beat Dubuque in their game, 87 – 83. The Dutch host the Norse at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
