Another slow start doomed the Central women’s basketball team last night, falling to Simpson 62 – 49. The Dutch were held scoreless for the first 5:58 of the contest and scored a season-low 12 first-half points and shot just under 17% from the field. Courtney Kelderman led all Central scorers with 13 points off the bench. Central’s men ended the night on a more positive note, beating the Storm 80 – 76. The game was close throughout, with the Dutch holding on to just a one-point halftime lead. Matt Greenfield scored 23 points to lead all scorers on the floor, as Central’s men improve to 14 – 6 overall and 7 – 2 in the conference, while the women drop to 9 – 11 on the year and 1 – 8 in the league. Central’s men are one win or one loss by both Coe and Simpson away from clinching a spot in the Iowa Conference tournament. Central can do just that by defeating Coe in Cedar Rapids this Saturday.
