A bill that would allow a state tax break of up to $2 million to help pay for a major expansion project at the Knoxville Raceway was approved by an Iowa House subcommittee Wednesday. The bill would provide a rebate up to $2 million in state sales tax, and would cover up to a quarter of the cost of the expansion project. House file 2281 was introduced earlier this week by Representative Greg Heartsill. As KNIA KRLS News reported, Raceway General Manager Brian Stickel says the proposal is for a 4-story building on the southeast corner of the track, which would include an entry plaza, a skywalk to the existing stands, additional skyboxes and retail space. He says it has not been decided if the skate pit will be housed in the building or relocated to another place on the fairgrounds.
