Recently, KNIA KRLS News reported that the Knoxville Raceway’s expansion project is gaining momentum in the state legislature. Representative Greg Heartsill introduced a bill that would allow state sales tax to help fund the $4 to $6 million project, which includes a four-story building on the southwest corner of the track, where the Skate Pit is now. General Manager and Promoter Brian Stickel says the project is in the very preliminary stages, but the structure would include six 50-60 person suites. Stickel says there is always a shortage of suites during the nationals, and the late model nationals, and he says the addition of these suites would create more revenue for the track, and more tourism for the county and state.
